Getting divorced can be tough for many reasons. Not only is it hard on you, but it can be difficult for your children to deal with as well.

Additionally, there are things like parental alienation that can make it even more difficult. If you feel concerned about parental alienation, then here are some things to look out for.

What is parental alienation?

Parental alienation is when a child or children identifies more with one parent over the other. Often, they identify more with the custodial parent, but this is not always the case. The alienated parent is typically rejected and vilified, for no reason. This can damage the relationship with their children not only in the short term but in the long term, too.

Know the signs to look for

If you suspect that parental alienation is occurring in your divorce, then you need to know what signs to look for. One sign is that your spouse frequently has negative things to say about you. This can color your children’s thinking about you as their parent. Another sign is that your child or children are always angry with you, or are very critical for no apparent reason. Additionally, another thing that signals that parental alienation is occurring is that your spouse takes steps to limit your contact with your children.

Divorce can be difficult and stressful, and it can be even more so if you are the victim of parental alienation. By knowing the signs, you can empower yourself to take the right steps if you feel that you are being alienated from your children.
